Lore

In the heart of the vast mountains lay the Kingdom of Ferador, a hidden realm where the dwarves thrived for centuries. Shielded from the outside world, they lived in sprawling underground cities, their lives defined by craftsmanship, mining, and an unyielding sense of community. The dwarves of Ferador, led by their wise and brave King Thrain, knew little of the world above and cared even less, for their lives were rich with the treasures and comforts of their underground empire.

Generations of dwarves dug deeper into the earth, seeking precious metals and gemstones. One fateful day, they tunneled into a cavern that had remained untouched for millennia. From the shadows emerged massive creatures, ancient and malevolent, awoken by the dwarves’ intrusion. These colossal beasts, with scales as hard as diamond and eyes that glowed like molten lava, began to wreak havoc on Ferador.

Panic spread like wildfire as the creatures tore through the kingdom’s defenses. King Thrain watched in horror as his people fell before the onslaught. The proud halls of Ferador, once filled with laughter and song, echoed with the cries of battle and despair. Determined to save his people, the king devised a desperate plan—one that required a sacrifice of unimaginable proportions.

In a secret council with his most trusted advisors, King Thrain outlined his strategy. They would collapse the mountain itself, sealing the beasts within and burying the heart of their kingdom. The cost was high, but it was the only way to ensure the survival of any dwarves who could escape.

The preparations were swift and grim. While the warriors held the creatures at bay, the miners set explosive charges throughout the mountain. King Thrain led the final defense, his mighty axe cleaving through the monstrous foes as he bought time for his people to flee. As the last charges were set, he gave the signal.

The mountain rumbled, the ground shuddered, and with a deafening roar, the mighty peaks of Ferador collapsed. The creatures were entombed beneath tons of rock and earth, their roars silenced forever. King Thrain, along with many of his brave warriors, perished in the cataclysm.

Yet, not all was lost. A group of survivors, emerged from the chaos. They stood in the sunlight for the first time, blinking in the unfamiliar brightness. Grief-stricken but resolute, they faced a daunting future.

Gathered around a campfire under the open sky, the dwarves of Ferador made a vow. They would honor King Thrain’s sacrifice by forging a new destiny. Some spoke of reclaiming their lost kingdom, of delving back into the depths to rebuild. Others, awed by the beauty of the world above, dreamed of starting anew on the surface.

United by their loss and inspired by their king’s courage, the dwarves of Ferador knew one thing: they would survive and thrive, whether beneath the earth or under the sky, for the spirit of Ferador lived on in them.
