Kraytor

Archdemons

An Archdemon who turns loss into supply

Kraytor is an Archdemon whose binding marks force dead bodies to answer a single directing will. He does not restore the person who died. Memory, loyalty and judgement are absent; only movement remains. This distinction is why Astoldir describes Kraytor’s armies as occupation rather than resurrection.

Kraytor prefers battlefields already exhausted by another commander. Every casualty can reinforce him, allowing his host to grow while a living army loses strength.

The War of the Undead

During the Ashen War, Kraytor followed Morthraxanor’s invasion into Ferador’s northern front. He raised the unburied dead from abandoned fields and sent them toward the largest settlements, expecting fear and fresh casualties to make the army endless.

Astoldir uncovered the marks linking each group to Kraytor. Ferador and Vanyr then fought the War of the Undead as a series of controlled recoveries rather than one hopeless battle.

A legacy the kingdoms chose to answer

Kraytor escaped the destruction of his army but lost his route into the realm when the Black Gate closed. Protected burial grounds, recovery units and shared treatment of enemy dead were created specifically to deny him the conditions he exploits.

His name remains a warning on unmarked battlefields. Leaving the dead behind is no longer only a failure of honour; it is a danger to everyone still living.
