The First Crown
The right to rule
As mortal settlements grew, celestial protection began to resemble celestial control. Eldiar ended that dependence by forbidding angels from holding mortal thrones. Aidian carried the decree to the largest river settlement, where its elected war leader became the first crowned ruler.
The crown was not presented as divine ownership. It represented a duty to protect people, land and law. Angels could advise, warn and defend the Veil, but the daily fate of the realm would be decided by mortals and the kingdoms they built.
The Crown Reckoning
Royal historians began a new age with the coronation. Modern dates preserve the ages separately because no reliable conversion exists between the celestial record and the first mortal calendars.
