Zaldor
Darkness without evil
Zaldor is the Archangel of Darkness and the brother of Elirion. His mantle governs concealment, rest, silence and the limits that prevent power from spreading without control. Darkness under Zaldor is not demonic. It is the night that shelters the exhausted, the shadow that hides a refugee road and the boundary that keeps overwhelming light from consuming what it was meant to protect.
The oldest tablets name him Zalrith. He adopted the name Zaldor after the first celestial schism, marking a deliberate break from the failures attached to that earlier age.
The patient warden
Where Elirion confronts a danger, Zaldor studies how it moves. He severed the retreat of the first invading demon host, traced Gyliandos through forged royal letters during the Storm over Zephyr and guarded routes that had to remain unknown even to friendly armies.
This method often makes him distrusted. Zaldor accepts that burden, but Eldiar’s law forbids secrecy from becoming control. Elirion remains the person most able to challenge him when caution begins to resemble isolation.
Keeper of the Black Gate’s scar
During the Blinding Aurora, Zaldor wrapped Mythos in darkness so Elirion’s light could be shaped into a seal. He carried part of the Black Gate’s residue in his mantle for years afterward, preventing it from attaching itself to the weakened Veil.
The experience left him unusually sensitive to demonic crossings. In the Fifth Age he watches the hidden roads between realms, looking for the small compromises through which the next invasion may begin.
