Gyliandos

Demons

A demon who weaponises certainty

Gyliandos is a demon of deception who cannot create trust, love or ambition. He works with what already exists, turning reasonable suspicion into certainty and private fear into public accusation. His forged objects carry a shadow-signature that is almost invisible unless several examples are compared.

He is less powerful than an Archdemon, but his methods require no army and can pass through courts that would recognise an open breach immediately.

The Storm over Zephyr

After Zephyr’s monarch died without an accepted heir, Gyliandos gave three highland houses different letters that seemed to prove the others had murdered the royal family. Each forgery reinforced what its recipient already feared.

Zaldor ended the Storm over Zephyr by tracing the identical shadow-signature on the letters. The discovery exposed Gyliandos, but only after years of conflict had killed people and divided the kingdom.

The safeguards left behind

Zephyr’s answer was institutional rather than magical. Royal courts began keeping independent archives, comparing documents and requiring multiple seals on declarations of war, succession and alliance.

Gyliandos remains a useful warning: demonic influence succeeds most easily when rulers abandon verification because a lie confirms what they already want to believe.
